You forget that even after a possible house division one still has a living entitlement and does not want to live in a very confined space. Our child is around 30, grandchild exists too, my parents in their mid-70s also have a house like we do.

One does not believe that anyone in our family wants to downsize or turn the living room into a bedroom. Everything on one level, yes sure. But no halving of the main room or living room or such.

Good morning and thank you for the new drafts. I also find them nice. For me, the parent bedroom is a bit small and the bathrooms are not stacked on top of each other. I like the previous version a bit better. Divisibility is definitely an important issue. In the houses of my parents and parents-in-law, the layout is such that sharing is either not possible at all or the attic apartment is simply too small for a family. Especially in the latter case, it is frustrating because the house has over 200 sqm in total and with a different layout could certainly work as a multi-generation house. Apart from that, if none of the children stays in the house, the upper floor/attic apartment could be rented out very well. The property is about 5 km from the center of Münster with excellent connections to the highway and train, without hearing any noise from them. This is a very sought-after residential location that can always be rented out. If the ground floor is to be remodeled later, the statics must be considered. As it is designed in version 18, you could insert drywall partitions at any time. Whether you actually do this or just leave it open remains to be seen.

Well, that varies a lot. My sister just remodeled her house so that her daughter with husband and child occupies the 1st floor + attic, and they moved into the ground floor. In the process, they reduced their living space by about 1/3. She said it was a relief. However, she (and that applies to many older couples) needs 2 bedrooms in old age – because the husband snores so much that they can't sleep together anymore. So simply partitioning a room wouldn't have been enough.

It also depends on how big it was before. We also made sure that it would be rather smaller than bigger, but it still ended up being about 50sqm. But one must not expect to lead a "different life" in old age and to be able to do without a TV corner or dining table. Sure, the table can be smaller, but the food is not only delivered by a service, and you don’t eat in bed either. But this idea that the living room becomes the bedroom, I never understood it as an alternative plan and only saw it where the widow moves to the ground floor living room of the townhouse for care, where the caregiver can reach her faster. Sorry for the off-topic But it’s not off-topic at all, because you are on the right track with the idea of the division

My father would also not want to downsize, my mother would. Apart from that, I have adjusted the upstairs once again.

What are you always doing with those gigantic showers? You only end up freezing under them.
