Ok. Then this is a need that must be addressed. However, I want to point out that privacy screens do not necessarily have to come from the carport.
It should be determined from which height a privacy screen effectively blocks the view from the windows. Masonry or appropriate planting, if sufficiently high and well placed, will also do.
You won't get the original feeling of 2000sqm of privacy back anyway.
A really stupid question: Why move out at all? Sounds like no clear quality leap with the new building.
That's true, we won't get that back. But we want something of our own. We are practically
never on "classic" vacation, but spend the time at home and in the garden, tinker and build a lot, and like to work in the garden bed and on constant improvements. We also keep chickens (no rooster). The annoying thing is that part of our current property is designated as building land and the landlord will build a house there in about 3 years. This will then be 2m higher than the rest of the property and can see EVERYTHING. Also, we currently have a north-facing terrace made of exposed concrete and would like something nicer, or to occasionally make a proper investment here and there (windows, fireplace, shower, ...). But all of that would only be for the landlord, and with the new house the property completely loses its charm. Therefore, better to have our own home. At least then you invest all your time and love into your own four walls. And above all the money (rent is €1100 cold, so you don't make much profit compared to owning a home to say it's worth renting).
But we are looking forward to the ground-level access to the garden (currently only accessible via stairs from the carport!), the garden visible from the house's ground floor (currently only through the toilet window, you can't just put the child in the garden to play), the side-by-side double carport (currently, as I said, only in a row) and the open kitchen. What we will miss are the invisible huge plot, the non-existent neighbors, and (a bit) the peace.
We will definitely go back to the property to measure the required height for the privacy screen, we had planned that anyway.
I'll be a bit heretical. If you only need a computer corner in the living room, then the 33 sqm there is exaggerated
A bit too heretical — a couch to lounge on and a dining table are definitely desired. The largest room mentioned by us (6.5x4.6m) is our current living room... it's workable, but a bit bigger would be nice. However, there is currently no dining table in it.
Aside from the objections regarding storage space, which I also consider much too small, one tip on the kitchen: there are now several nice alternatives to an overhead extractor hood, and by that I don't just mean Bora, it can also be cheaper and just as good.
If you design the peninsula deeper, you could therefore keep the stove there.
That’s my wife’s matter; I don’t want to interfere. Since she doesn’t want the stove there at all (not just because of the extractor hood), that’s okay.
Nice side effect: costs less.
Just for info or inquiry: didn’t you write somewhere that it should be closed?
If that is the case, additional costs will definitely come up. I don’t know if your type of stairs can be closed at all... we have half risers, each cost around €100...
Anyway: that wasn’t your question here, but you should still give it some thought.
Yes, exactly. However, risers are included in the price (we explicitly asked).
