But you also don’t know if a complete renovation is necessary. The OP probably hasn’t seen the house himself yet. I don’t know what the question is supposed to be, especially since answers can be easily misinterpreted.

As I said, we have not been inside yet. It is also not quite official yet. I have only seen it briefly from the outside and have rough details.

We will go in with an architect (an acquaintance of ours) after the first inspection (he also does energy consulting). So we don’t estimate 180k either (rather significantly higher).

My approach to creating this topic was to gather experiences on whether you always have to completely renovate such old houses (with renovation backlog) on a property! So does a roof, pipes, windows, electrical system always have to be new because it’s so old?

I am aware that no one has a crystal ball and the information is currently sparse, but still, the forum always has many valuable experiences. That’s what I wanted to find out.

You don’t have to do anything at all. You can probably live in it normally—like the previous occupant did in recent years. You WANT to renovate, but you don’t have to. However, living comfort in the 1950s was quite different from today (minimal electrical installations, no network at all, radiators heated with oil and thus with today’s oil prices rather €3,000+ in heating costs, drafty and poorly insulated windows, etc.).

You only have to do what the Building Energy Act requires of you (possibly insulating the upper floor ceiling or roof and insulating pipes).

There is a gas heating system (however, about 40 years old). After the change of ownership, will the Building Energy Act come into play and inspect?
