You wouldn’t say that if you spend half of your working time in the car. Sure, I can also drive around in a Dacia, but then I could just as well build a 100 sqm house for 4 people.

And anyone who can’t pursue hobbies after building a house shouldn’t build one.

What kind of cars do you get for 10,000 euros? That's what I mean: I would never want to give up nice things just because of a repayment of 50% of the household disposable income. You can try to sugarcoat the Dacia, camping, and the cheap meat!

You are right, for €10,000 you can certainly get (almost) a brand new Dacia.

But anyone who buys a new car has lost control over their wallet. For under €10,000 you can also get, for example, a 2016 Octavia diesel. That's what I’m currently driving. Sometimes 1,000 km a week. It’s completely sufficient for me (!). I can’t understand the hype around Mercedes, BMW, Audi, or even VW as a house brand. I also wouldn’t know what is attractive about them in terms of price/performance. Cars are simply held in too high regard in this country ;)

If you spend half of your working time in the car, then the car should at least be a company car provided by the employer. In my opinion, this would then be excluded from the weighting list since it is not a private investment.

And only those who have never done it can have anything against camping... No, seriously, that is an absolutely generalized statement from you. My wife and I ourselves hiked the Kungsleden in northern Sweden for 20 days with just a tent and a backpack. Does that disqualify us in any way for a house?

No one is demanding to give up nice things, but for me (!) the order of preference is clearly the one I mentioned earlier.

But you do realize the company car is not free, right? You pay up to several hundred euros monthly for the company car (among other things depending on the distance to work).

I personally drive a GLC. Before that a Fiat Freemont and before that a 10-year-old Ford C-Max. And believe me, it makes a huge difference. The driving pleasure and comfort are considerably higher.

Yes indeed - live and let live :)

1000km a week is quite something - it really hits the wallet hard

In one month we are finally moving into our own home, then it will only be 250km
