It's more about the quality when you want to tinker with DIYS. Many lightweight furniture pieces from Ikea are great because they are practical, affordable, and pleasing. We also have a lot of Ikea (especially 3 complete kitchens – but without countertops and electrical appliances). Yes, that is Metod. But we also have Kallax, a lot of Ivar, and other things, too. But if you take a Kallax and want to attach panels to the back, it won't work because it's lightweight construction. Cut one open: at least 50% air inside with a stable outer shell and a honeycomb structure inserted in certain places – you can't screw anything onto it because there is nothing to hold. That's the only point – Metod is designed for stability (kitchens just weigh a lot) and Kallax or Nordli are aimed at light, practical, modern looks.

Have you ever sawed one of these pieces of furniture apart? Just a few weeks ago we fitted Nordli for the neighbors to adapt to a slope. It had surprisingly little "substance." That's why I recommend Metod for DIYS because you can simply build much more stable with it (and that's what this is about here: building, not a decorative shelf).

As written, I would build neither the one nor the other for such a purpose. I also don’t have to cut anything open, I’m well aware of that. But it’s also not the case that tonight hundreds of Kallax owners are lying helplessly under their collapsed constructions because Kallax is made of air. I always find it difficult when one is optimal and the other is junk. The builder here also wants to spend little money, and his taste and apparently that of some other speakers here is completely different from mine; such a construction will certainly not be really cheap with doors, drawers, accessories, etc. In this respect, I basically don’t care....... I’m going to go and rescue the Kallax-buried.....

What can be seen in the photo is apparently the Besta: a double in 40 height, next to it a 64 height, on top of that another 40. You can recognize it by the sides. The doors should be from the Smeviken series. Nothing complicated. Besta is made for that. The wooden top plate also comes from the Besta series. But even though Besta advertises it and is made for it, you get the same, just better, with Metod. It’s a simple modular system. The attached room divider can be found without problems on Google, also combined with Ikea hacks Besta, Metod or Ivar. However, I also hold to this here: Room divider from floor to ceiling, then the furniture in front of it.

By the way, Besta is more like air with cardboard and a few wood shavings. We have it as a lowboard, but in hindsight I would have preferred to use Metod.

Is there a reason why you recommend that?

One reason why I want to stick the wooden panels on is that I don’t have to fix anything to the floor. There are panels from a well-known large hardware store with plastic profiles that can be glued to the floor.

1. The profiles look pretty ugly and I’m also not completely sure about the gluing method... (we have underfloor heating) 2. The attachment on the shelves looks much more delicate and, in my opinion, appears much more high-quality and visually appealing

Otherwise, I only find complete constructions that would already cost me over €500 – as I said, I haven’t found a variant WITHOUT screwing to the floor yet.

However, if there are relatively good and cheap options, I’m of course open to them!

Well, if you attach the panels to the dresser, then you have to make sure that the dresser is not movable, so fixed.
