I find the term "trash" unnecessarily derogatory because you can see the opposite everywhere on the internet, and every Kallax buyer would basically be a fool while the Metod buyer would automatically be smart.
It's more about the quality when you want to tinker with DIYS. Many lightweight furniture pieces from Ikea are great because they are practical, affordable, and pleasing. We also have a lot of Ikea (especially 3 complete kitchens – but without countertops and electrical appliances). Yes, that is Metod. But we also have Kallax, a lot of Ivar, and other things, too. But if you take a Kallax and want to attach panels to the back, it won't work because it's lightweight construction. Cut one open: at least 50% air inside with a stable outer shell and a honeycomb structure inserted in certain places – you can't screw anything onto it because there is nothing to hold. That's the only point – Metod is designed for stability (kitchens just weigh a lot) and Kallax or Nordli are aimed at light, practical, modern looks.
Have you ever sawed one of these pieces of furniture apart? Just a few weeks ago we fitted Nordli for the neighbors to adapt to a slope. It had surprisingly little "substance." That's why I recommend Metod for DIYS because you can simply build much more stable with it (and that's what this is about here: building, not a decorative shelf).
