I have had good experiences with Metod. I now have my third kitchen. This time with fronts from an external manufacturer. I no longer find it super cheap either. However, cheap enough to happily do all kinds of DIY experiments and adapt the kitchen so that it fits.
The selection of fronts is a bit monotonous and colorless. But hopefully that will change over time.
The good thing about Ikea is that you can simply return anything you don’t need or have bought too much of.
I had about 6m of kitchen for 9000 euros with more than enough drawers and pull-outs.
An external fitter and various expert discussions can be found on FB under "Ikea Küchen."
The only thing that really bothers me about Ikea kitchens is that Ikea is really not an innocent company and causes enormous environmental problems while happily taking advantage of all kinds of tax loopholes. Not exactly a company that makes the world better. But I would have those concerns with all manufacturers.
