Apply Rustins Danish Oil. Prepare the slatted construction separately. Then you can invisibly screw the braces from above and below to the horizontal woods. Glue onto the wood on the cabinets and drill three times into the ceiling.

Would you therefore glue the entire slat construction onto the wooden board on the shelf and then only screw it to the ceiling at the top?

Yes, that's how I would do it. But you can also screw it at the bottom if you're worried that it might come loose there. Then screw it and make a putty with, for example, white glue and sawdust to close the drill holes. Afterwards, sand finely and oil, and you get nearly invisible screws.

I once thought of something like that as a divider between the living and dining areas. But then I made it out of drywall (like a wall full of holes), because it fit even better.
