Ikea Metod/corner upper cabinet, why no 30/50 grid?

Hello everyone, I don’t know if I have already written this in another forum or not. I work in a furniture factory where Metod is produced and we (the employees) also wondered why it is like this. On the one hand, we think it could be because no filler strips were installed and people wondered why, for example, the drawers rubbed against the wall afterwards or the refrigerator door would not open completely (I have seen it myself). That is why the filler strip of the Faktum 120 cm sink base cabinet was already increased from 22 mm to 100 mm. Furthermore, we came to the conclusion that at Ikea you can take your kitchen with you "immediately" and do not have to wait months for it to be produced. I had to wait 3 months, that was in 1994, for my alno kitchen. Considering how much storage space is saved by this, you still have to add the fronts and other accessories, I can understand that there are only these dimensions. Of course, production plays a big role: fewer dimensions = more production = cheaper price. Regards Mr. Rossi

I see it the same way as Mr. Rossi, this is solely a cost saving.
Since Ikea currently cannot keep up with delivering the kitchen parts, they do not care about the few customers who do not buy from Ikea because of the missing 30/50 cm cabinets.

I am glad that we still have the old Faktum. With the new ones, I couldn't build the kitchen like this anymore.
U-kitchen

Left
50cm
80cm
60cm
5cm air gap
Corner not used

Connection left/right
40cm
20cm (brilliant for tongs, dishwasher tabs, cookbooks & bags)
60cm stove
90/90 corner cabinet with carousel

Right
90/90 corner cabinet
60cm sink
60cm dishwasher

I have the problem of finding a used 50cm or 60cm tall cabinet, no matter if only 1.5m or 2m.

80 cm and 100 cm wall cabinets with a 6 cm decorative strip underneath.

The side panels don’t reach down to the floor. The base is closed by the base covers.

Currently, low wall cabinets with lift-up fronts are very popular. With FAKTUM, this resulted in widths of 70 cm and 92 cm with the normal doors. There were no suitable widths matching the base cabinets. For that, special doors would have had to be made. METOD is designed to allow as much combination within the system as possible. That would not have been possible with the old measurements.

Ah, the cabinets stick out a little at the front. OK, then for example 80 cm are actually enough.

Decorative strips under the upper cabinets? I've never heard of that. However, I must admit that my husband chose the cabinets and planned the arrangement and I only implemented his hand sketch on the computer. I never dealt with all that stuff intensively, I let him do it, he enjoys that kind of thing, I less so...

Maybe it won't be an IKEA kitchen after all. Because I discovered the company Schüller with their System 78, which offers a very wide range of variations, alone 4 carcass depths and 5 plinth heights. Tomorrow we are going to a specialist dealer who carries the brand.

A pure kitchen manufacturer naturally offers significantly more variation options. Please let us know how you decide and how attractive the offers are in comparison to the price of the Ikea kitchen.
