What I am getting at here: I want to retrofit a heat pump at a later time, when both availability is better and demand is no longer so extreme, and the manufacturers have milked the cash cow. That should generally be possible, right? An oil heating system should also be operable with low flow temperatures and low-temperature radiators and underfloor heating, shouldn’t it?

Maybe one more thing about heating: We are currently facing similar decisions and had a conversation on site with our plumbing company. First, they were surprised by our low consumption, even though hot water is also gas-powered here (average over the last 5 years with 4 people around 10,500 kWh/a). Then they said that getting a new heating system actually doesn’t make sense because we consume so little and the heating system would still run well for many more years. However, he now wants to offer us first a hybrid solution and then a complete solution. In the attic and first floor, it would remain with new radiators, and on the ground floor we would combine it with underfloor heating. By the way, he also said he thinks everything will calm down by the end of the year. From his point of view, there have been multiple orders/panic buys which caused the shortage. We will postpone the whole thing to next year and then see. Basically, he said that getting a new heating system doesn’t really make sense and we should rather just carry out the remaining energy-related measures. And wait until everything settles down. If only one had a crystal ball...

I have exactly the same thought at the moment. To continue operating the functioning one for now until things have calmed down a bit. Maybe you can keep us updated here on how things develop with you and your plumber :)

How could the hybrid solution look? Drinking water heat pump with photovoltaic?

The hybrid solution in our case would be to continue operating the old gas heating system + a small air heat pump with [Photovoltaik]. The complete solution would be to heat everything with a heat pump and [Photovoltaik], but then the investment would be very high. I am not yet convinced of a hybrid solution, because it certainly already costs a lot of money, but we would still have to pay for a (probably very expensive) gas contract with a basic price and also continue to have the maintenance costs of the gas heating system AND pay off the new heating system. I cannot imagine that this can be economical. I think it would be better to either stay completely with gas or switch entirely.

What does that mean in concrete numbers (€) all-inclusive (contract/consumption/maintenance…) 2021, currently and in the future? And what is the equivalent to oil and HP (COP4)? What flow temperatures are operated in winter?

What relevance does that have to this topic? The question is meant seriously and not annoyed.
