Had such an Intex pool on the rooftop terrace last year. They are inexpensive and perfectly sufficient for cooling off.

You can do everything yourself, the question is only whether you want to or can. There are also people who dig their pool themselves with a shovel and wheelbarrow. You have to see what you want to spend and whether it is all feasible price-wise. We had a pool built last year; that is the easiest way. We don’t have a heater yet, but with the hot summer until September we still had warm water (always between 24 and 27 degrees), we had the pool walls insulated and covered the pool when not in use. Best regards Sabine

Hello everyone,

I am using this post to ask my question:

We would like to at least make the preparations for a future pool when building our single-family house. What should one consider or what is needed for this?

I am first thinking about the pipes:
- Electricity - Do you need a high-voltage connection?
- Water/sewage - Is that absolutely necessary or can you later fill the water, for example, with a garden hose?

Would empty conduits possibly be a cheaper alternative than having the pipes installed directly? Could you later lay the necessary water pipes through the empty conduits?

Thanks in advance! :)

We had our pool built completely at once (had it built:). I don’t remember all the details anymore but both the electrician, the plumber, and the sewer builder connected the pool with the house and the equipment (in our basement). So I would already think in advance about what kind of pool you want and how it will be operated. When we backwash our pool or want to drain the water, it goes through the sewer; a larger lifting system was necessary inside the house. You can certainly fill the water with a garden hose (the guys here used the hydrant because otherwise it would have taken forever), the question is more how you get it out again if necessary. Whether that can work with empty conduits you should best ask a pool builder and your plumber (you can always get an offer for a pool and already ask many questions there), but honestly I would consider whether I really want a pool (and of course if it’s affordable, such a thing is unfortunately very expensive) and if yes, build it right away so the whole garden doesn’t get torn up again in a few years (the excavator has to get onto the property somehow) or skip it and then rather use an above-ground pool in a few years. However, my two cousins each built their pools almost entirely by themselves years after the actual house was built. So everything is possible without preparation in the house, but since those two are extremely skilled in craftsmanship and seem to know about ten people for every trade who do it professionally and help out for a beer, I don’t know how easy that would actually be for normal desk workers like me :)

Where should the equipment go? Inside the house or by the pool? For the pool control, pump(s) no high voltage is needed. However, for example, for a heat pump. If you want to use the house heating system, it must be properly sized. Water, wastewater, electricity, empty conduits for spotlights, control cables, etc. Refilling with a garden hose is not a good idea. You have to constantly check the water level. Do yourself a favor and install an adjustable pump with a large filter right away. Pool control with automatic dosing. This way you can enjoy the pool, have excellent water quality, and won't become a slave to your pool. How big should it be?
