Place house, garage / carport on the property

Even a carport wouldn't solve the discussion issue because it is just as "opaque" as a garage. And since we planned the front door between the garage and the house, we can't just leave out the garage. That would just look strange.

Then just live with the weird appearance for a few years. I would look for a (temporary) solution that satisfies both sides.

Apart from that, I agree with Kaho that a living room in the NE is not necessarily brilliantly planned (our pantry and guest WC are located there).

So what is in the NW for you? For us, the toilet and office are completely oriented to the north, but I simply don’t have enough space on the south side to fit dining/cooking and the living room, especially if we want a kitchen island.

For me, it was also essential to have the kitchen in the south. Of course, I could swap the living room and kitchen now, but I really wanted to keep the paths to the garden (vegetable and herb bed is planned directly outside the door) and the terrace as short as possible.

The solution is simple now: we keep a 6m distance to the property boundary and only then start with the garage. That way, the house stands in terms of setback distances exactly as before the mirroring. However, we will still do the mirroring to move the terrace away from the street.

And that’s not to say I don’t appreciate your opinion Katja, but I also don’t see any way to optimally supply all rooms with light without throwing other premises overboard (distance to the street, entrance area, straight staircase, ...).

Ultimately, building a house is always a matter of weighing the premises. Often it is difficult to abandon a working plan and redesign because something contradicts it, as in your case. However, one should not make the mistake of being satisfied with something just because it would be easier to "just" quickly mirror it.

I have to agree with . My first thought about the idea of "mirroring" was also ... no, that’s not possible. But then I took a closer look and follow the argumentation or had already thought it through that way. A proper retreat living room really doesn’t need the sun or the light so much. And I also agree for the other rooms. I still don’t like the combination of tall cabinet wall/pantry.
