More likely the care for the residents?

Hmm... then let's wait for the dimensioned plans :)

The granny flat is just under 90, our house about 180 sqm

Yes, with parents :) but it also depends on the fact that both parents live very far away, and with children you have many advantages if you live close. Of course, also disadvantages... no question.

I have to be honest: two important elements in a house like a staircase and a kitchen unit, which are both supposed to stand on their own - in a house that can afford it, so not 109 sqm designed for 4 people - must not have any points of contact, must never merge, nor be built over or under each other. A landing staircase can be so beautiful - without kitchen cabinets underneath - they have no place there. How should the staircase be executed there? With a wall or open? I see it as open. Dust falls with every trip to the kitchen. The room is full of unrest. And you don’t have to see the steps of the staircase in a kitchen unit either. You can do that in a semi-detached house, or when the floor area ratio is too low, so a cost-saving measure. Or in existing buildings like an old farmhouse, where nothing else works. But like this?!... hmm.

This is how the kitchen should look.

Have a look at the path from the preparation zone to the cooktop.

SbS under the stairs? Then the opening direction of the SbS cooling part is opposite to the direction of the preparation zone.

All work areas are always also passage areas in this floor plan.

Why the attached counter at table height?

What finished room height have you planned? As the cabinet height under the platform is planned, it seems to be a very high room height.

the preparation zone is also right next to the cooktop, there is really plenty of space. you don’t have to do everything at the sink

sbS under the stairs. yes, but so built-in...
the counter at table height so you can sit there better. we still have small children.

yes, those are passage areas, that’s just because the kitchen is in the middle of the room, you can hardly realize it any other way. the passages are wide... that can probably be managed
