Yes - sort of. There is always a 50% discount on the list prices, our kitchen salesman told us... without any promotion. Assembly and delivery also cost us nothing - without any promotion. That doesn't mean you can't buy a good, inexpensive kitchen at [Mömax], just not as cheap as you might hope.

Hi,

What else should it be other than bait and switch or simply a rip-off? They have nothing to give away, so the -50% is already the normal price. How much margin is still in there is hard to say.

If you get an offer from them, you can just say:
“How, you have 50% weeks and everything costs only half? Great, I also have 50% weeks and only offer 50% on every offer.” It’s just as cheeky as their tactic.

Jokes aside, if someone advertises directly with 50% discount, I would always feel like I’m being ripped off. I would have to press them down to max 25% of the original price to even believe I didn’t pay too much. And that will probably be a bit difficult and better to spare everyone involved the stress.

Best regards,

Andreas

That is simply perverse .. but it also depends on the consumer, because the eyes still sparkle more when someone can say "I got 50% off" than when they say, I paid amount xx. Unfortunately, too many people are infected with %-signs and do not think when buying.

I believe it is primarily because manufacturers have to print lists and catalogs with prices. Consumers may also have access to these. So these prices cannot be designed in a way that would restrict the "freedom of pricing" of the retailers. Imagine you only want to buy a base cabinet; according to the list it costs €487. If you buy it as part of a large order (the entire kitchen), the sales overhead costs are proportionally much smaller than if you spend 2 hours getting advice for that one cabinet. That the retail chains then make a 50% discount out of it is of course nonsense... I absolutely agree with you on that.

Actually, I usually avoid such furniture stores as well. Their pricing policy is simply terrible. I just walked through a shopping mall recently, and basically everywhere there's at least 30% off, or buy 3 pay for 2, etc. This totally destroys the reputable retail trade.

If our ancillary construction costs turn out to be lower than planned, maybe it will be enough for a kitchen from the kitchen manufacturer after all.

We were at Ikea on Tuesday and looked at the kitchens. In principle, there is nothing against it. However, since we will probably end up with a kitchen with a wooden front and we don't like the respective fronts from Ikea, it is unfortunately not an option for us.

It's a pity because I really liked the price transparency.

The longer I deal with the topic, the stronger my aversion to the big furniture stores becomes. I have now found some kitchen builders in our area, one of whom the neighbor bought from and would do it again anytime.
