So my parents have had an air-to-water heat pump standing in front of the house for many years... directly in front of the kitchen window, and neither in the kitchen nor outside in the seating area in front of the house has it bothered me with noise so far. The humming is even so muted that I really have to concentrate to be able to say at all whether it is humming or not.

I often go for walks in new housing developments. Unfortunately, I have often had to think: if I, over 50, can still hear the buzzing of such boxes, how loud must it be for dogs? Aside from the fact that I find it pretty silly to put what are basically rewired refrigerators in the front yard, to put it bluntly. Behind trash bin-sized cages behind the exterior wall they don’t bother me – but as Karsten says, "simple rugged reliable," you can also heat that way. Does a stupid heating system have to be a fashion statement that you prominently place next to the electric car in front of the house?

Yes, the cheap ones, including Rotex, do make a hell of a noise, fortunately the new systems are better and there are few low-budget ones in operation. But many court rulings can be found on this, as low-frequency sound also penetrates houses without any problem.

The consequence can be sleep problems, and as is well known, that’s where the fun ends.

Moreover, it probably depends on the type of air-to-water heat pump and also on how far away it is located.... Placing it nicely far away from your own house on the neighbor's south terrace is simply NOT forbidden....

Well, often you hardly have a choice. If gas was never laid in the first place....or if the Greens almost force you to the pump drunk with Greta....I myself still prefer gas condensing boilers, it's simpler and less sophisticated and therefore more rugged and reliable. Only, often one must say with Brecht, the circumstances, they are not like that. In any case, I cannot find them noisy.
