No, I don’t have any for two-story houses because we built a bungalow. I can only tell you how we proceeded: 1. Look at model house floor plans. There are many functional floor plans, even if you don’t like them 100%. 2. Consider what I like and don’t like about these floor plans. 3. Consider what is important to me. For us, there were some things that were basically set, like a large entrance area with enough space for getting dressed, even for at least two people at the same time, fireplace, floor-to-ceiling shower, toilet right at the entrance, large window front facing south to the garden, no walk-through rooms, everything as open as possible... 4. From this, I created a floor plan and posted it here. There were some good tips that I then incorporated. Additionally, I put the floor plan up for discussion among friends and relatives. I thought about the tips I received there and partly implemented them, partly discarded them because they didn’t fit us or were not feasible. 5. Then I moved walls until we liked everything or until there was a compromise between liking and what was feasible. For example, I would have preferred our bathroom toward the back or the main entrance from the side. But that was not possible with the other requirements. From this, a house was created in which we have felt very comfortable for 8 weeks now. Our utility room is just under 9 sqm. All the technology fits well in there, plus a large shelf, 3 m long, room-high and 60 cm deep, for painting supplies and provisions. Washing machine and dryer side by side with the resulting workspace, and a clothes dryer can also be placed if absolutely necessary. But I stood by the installers and made sure they installed only exactly in their planned spot. But I wouldn’t get decoration, suitcases etc. in there anymore.

Am I the only one here who finds 2.13m very measly for window recesses? I was already a bit annoyed with my 2.26m...

Good morning, yes still here, just wasn't at the computer over the weekend :) The Gussek Haus Murano already comes very close to our ideas. I'm a bit hesitant about the dark interior hallway. Maybe that could be solved with interior glazing to the utility room. Then I'll try to clarify what rightly pointed out, how much the height differences affect our planning.

Unlike the others, I like the straight staircase lying across to break up the elongated house (especially the elongated open-plan area) and to separate spaces. Especially if you don’t want to look from the sofa to the dining table and the kitchen. However, I would definitely reverse the direction of the staircase to start it in the hallway. I also believe that with an open staircase and children, you won’t necessarily be happy. I would then create storage / pantry under the stairs.

Glaze generously on the south side in the kitchen above the worktop.

Upstairs, I also find the hallway too large, and for me the children belong facing south and the parents in the cool, quiet north. Therefore, I would mirror it there.

Definitely move the house one meter to the left, otherwise every postman will be hanging on your car. Then behind the parking space or carport, a 4-meter-wide storage room for things that can also be stored cold. If necessary, insulate it yourself and put in a frost guard.

And here is an idea of how that could look:

Ground floor: larger building services room with a normal door, more space for the wardrobe, larger kitchen, etc.

Upper floor: larger children’s rooms facing south, hallway reduced in favor of more closet space, bathroom more appealing. Only the separate (but also space-consuming) dressing room would be gone.
