A sub-distribution (Switch) does not make sense there. Better to connect an access point to the cable. Power it via POE from the house or, if the access point cannot do POE, then plug it into the socket. Everything centralized is the right choice for such small networks.

What exactly needs to be connected serially o.O On the Ethernet side, nothing should need a "real" point-to-point connection.

The goal here is to secure potential future compatibility if cables are absolutely necessary and to save money during installation. And the backup solution with a switch is very neat if you don't want to lay duplex. The topology really shouldn't be a problem. It's not about latency or throughput...

Switch also costs money and requires power. Therefore, it is not cheaper.

A decentralized switch only requires power when you turn it on. A big switch in the HAR, to which you connect your 35 LAN cables, always requires power, even if at night it only supplies the access point upstairs and all other devices (TVs, laptops, etc.) are turned off.

I really cannot understand the reservations against WLAN. Activate MAC filtering in the router, generate a strong password, and no one will ever break into your WLAN. A hacker wouldn't go to crazy lengths just to get into the WLAN of any random single-family house... unless you boldly write on your front door that you work at Rheinmetall Defence, Siemens, or BMW in corporate research...

But even then, if in doubt, he will just break the window and steal your laptop... instead of hacking into your well-secured WLAN.

Apart from that, the company also has a VPN tunnel for the home office, and confidential data is encrypted at least once and not just stored plainly on the hard drive...

And for home banking, there is two-factor authentication...
