exactly here (also) important. Avoid wireless and latencies in gaming are literally "deadly"

But then it won’t work with PoE. ;) Apart from that, the fibers themselves are not expensive, but proper installation requires certain knowledge and tools, and the necessary hardware tends to be more expensive than the standard consumer stuff.

WLAN is a great thing, but I would never give up LAN. It's always a combination of both. Stationary devices on LAN and mobile ones on WLAN. Since you are building a terraced house, the direct neighbors can really mess up your WLAN. That's when you appreciate cables.

When laying the cables, make sure they are laid in a conduit and preferably in such a way that they can be replaced.

How about WLAN on the terrace? The access point in the house doesn't always reach the terrace. Then an outdoor access point is recommended.

If there are e-charging stations, don't forget the LAN there and also rooms like the hobby room.

Where will you let all the technology converge? Have you already talked to the electrician about this? Should everything be nailed to the wall or put into a network cabinet? This somewhat influences the execution, such as cable lengths and patch panel.

As others have already pointed out, one should not do without LAN. WiFi should rather be seen as a supplement. Especially now with home office and homeschooling, problems are accumulating. Usually, it's the faction that thinks "a Fritzbox in the middle of the house is enough and LAN is not needed because there is WiFi...".

Whether one access point per floor is sufficient depends on the size, floor plan, wall structure, requirements... Better to lay a few more meters of CAT7a cable now. If the configuration is not sufficient, simply install another access point. Plan APs in the areas where the most performance/speed is needed (living room, office, children's room...). LAN in the living room, office, children's room...

My neighbors are currently connected to my guest network from one of the APs outside. Only this way can the little one participate in online classes.

Hello everyone,

Thank you very much for your many answers.

I have now additionally ordered three connections, that should be enough.

Can someone maybe explain to me how the power over PoE gets through the cable to the access point, or rather which device supplies the cables with power?

And do I need to pay attention to anything when connecting?

The drawings you find on the internet all look plausible, but maybe there is something to keep in mind?

Thank you very much in advance.

The supply of, for example, access points (Access Points) via POE (Power over Ethernet) is handled centrally by a POE switch. Alternatively, individual devices can also be powered via POE injectors (e.g., if a suitable switch is too expensive or one without POE is already available). Unfortunately, there are different POE "variations," but almost all modern standard components work together. Nevertheless, it is better to check the datasheet once or enter the desired components here (or simply buy components from one manufacturer/series). Alternatively, enter the rough desired configuration here, and there will certainly be some suitable recommendations. For this, please describe the conditions and fixed parameters as precisely as possible.
