Do you need LAN cables in the garage?

Empty conduits outside the building envelope are not offered, so the conduit option is not possible.

The electrician installs a 5x6mm cable to the garage and connects it to a small sub-distribution.

1x 40A switch
and 4x 16A circuit breakers

for electricity in the garage and garden and for an 11 KW wallbox.

I checked the prices again (for the interior rooms).

220€ net for Duplex
190€ net for Simplex

But he has the patch panel gold-plated and insists on installing it (how else should he test the cables)

8-port 200€ net
12-port 320€ net
16-port 450€ net

I am trying to make sense of these prices ... and I can't. A really good modular patch panel (24 Port, Metz Connect / BTR) costs about €160 net. For a 24 port that would be at least €650 he is charging, so about €500 remain for terminating and testing. That means about 1 day of work (about €60 electrician net?). I find it outrageous o_O

If you read this forum, it doesn’t seem unusual that some craftsmen charge a lot when there are no alternatives. So in the end, you just have to bite the bullet. That was also a reason for us back then to work with an architect and individual trade contracting. I don’t even remember exactly what it was about back then, it was a long time ago, but our electrician also once treated me badly. I kicked him off the construction site and that was it. He then loudly complained to the architect about how this could happen and that he had never experienced anything like it. I let him calm down first and then made it clear again that I am the client here and the one who pays him and therefore sets the rules. If he had a problem with that, I could also find another electrician.

Yes, I also find the prices outrageous.

But unfortunately, we have to accept it that way (Bauträger halt).

That's why I'm considering where we could possibly save Cat cables to reduce costs.

If it already makes sense to have internet in the garage.

For possibly LAN in the garden or an access point in the garden (if the access point in the living room is not enough)
or wallbox

then we have to bite the bullet and lay the LAN cable into the garage.

The idea was to switch from duplex to simplex in the garage and the attic of the duplex to reduce from 10 ports to 8 so that only an 8-port patch panel is needed.

In the attic, we currently have 2 duplex sockets in the two corners.
Behind the desk, a simplex would also be enough, and you just put a switch there for €15.

Empty conduits outside the building envelope are not offered, therefore it is not possible with the empty conduit. Ask him where he would then lay his LAN cable, surely not without an empty conduit (protective pipe in this case), because that would be even more shoddy work. Don't let yourself be brushed off so easily. How far have you progressed with the construction at the moment? Then you get the empty conduit yourself and lay it in.

The Cat cable is laid in the empty conduit

but he does not want to make an empty conduit.

We are building with a developer and the problem is that we can be ripped off.

We are not allowed to make any changes before the final handover and not lay any conduits ourselves

Either we take it from the electrician or not

or we simply leave out the CAT socket and then only use WLAN in the garage

the access point in the living room should actually have enough power to cover the 11x20m garden and also supply the garage (directly on the other side of the wall)

Does anyone have experience?
