And now something to laugh or cry about. As you wish. The staircase will also not be a cost driver

But the bathroom and the staircase are also the only things that are standard. Ok, the bathroom is a little better than at TE's or Karsten's, but not much more.

We actually wanted a flat steel staircase, but our architect said it would be pearls before swine. He was right.

Let's be honest - no one really wants just a hole in the ground and a garden hose, even if it would be cheaper. A house is always somewhat a matter of passion, not purely an investment measured by returns.

We ended up paying just under 2400 extra for a WC with shower on the ground floor and the main bathroom upstairs. This was approximately split 50:50 between tiles and fixtures.

Interesting that you can break it down like that. I've never bothered to split it up like that before. I only know the prices per trade. I also don't have a breakdown. I go to the trade, look at what I like, check the price, and decide whether I want it or not.

The plumber/planner actually tried to sell me on the idea that a tiled shower costs the same as the selected 1x1m shower tray. If you take out all the tiling work, tiles, and nice drain, that might be true. After he realized the argument didn't hold up, he said that the masons can't make a 90-degree angle. . But what can you do, he felt barely 20 years old.

As Haydee already points out.. There are unavoidable costs, driveways, gardens, supporting slopes. There are avoidable costs. Bathroom cabinets, faucets, glass walls. Marble stairs. And standard does not mean you cannot live well with it. We prefer to express ourselves aesthetically through furniture rather than the bathroom. This month we will still receive a beautiful handcrafted table.

I thought the same
By the way, I would take the two bathrooms like that... to be precise, the washbasin in the upper one is almost too bulky for me.
In the bathroom, we mainly ruled out the drainage channels in the flush-level showers... the standard would have been a drain in the middle. Also rimless toilets, which only cost about 60€ or so, and a larger sink in the guest bathroom had a cute extra charge of under 5€. We rather went all-in on the interior doors during the selection because we simply wanted a certain look and also needed a quasi exterior door with an interior door look for a particular spot.

The general contractor we built with no longer goes to the bathroom studio for sampling. Only upon customer request. Bathrooms were sampled there, sometimes with surcharges of up to 40,000 euros, and then the whole thing affordable again.
