A few weeks ago, we talked with my husband's uncle and aunt about our house construction and of course also about their house construction... when they then said that they alone had spent several thousand euros on the (children's) safety gates at the stairs, I almost threw my hands up over my head... from that moment on I also knew why they thought we would surely have to increase our budget again... however, from our point of view, after sample selection and kitchen planning etc, there is still no sign of that so far

I am glad that there is such lively discussion here. We are currently in the process of formulating our building inquiry. Should we receive a positive preliminary decision, it will quickly become clear how far we can go with our budget of €300,000.
Although I must admit that we will then no longer have to pay for the land, as it will be transferred to us. This, of course, increases the budget for the house by the corresponding amount of about €40-50k. Then we can use the entire amount for the house and ancillary building costs.

That remains to be seen. Ancillary building costs, earthworks, etc. are simply not in one's control. That will become clear.

Dear TE, don’t worry. Either the money is enough or it isn’t. There is no in-between. If it’s enough, then you did everything right. If it’s not enough, then you just have to provide additional funding.

You won’t die from that either, as long as the income is steady.
