If your current cameras are sufficient for you, then something similar will definitely do for the doorbell.

For you, it's more for playing around and quickly checking. It doesn't have much to do with real surveillance and protection. I think your system is not secured against power outages, nor is there any external backup...
3 days of recording is nothing. If you are on vacation and something happens, the system overwrites after 3 days...
You currently cannot access it from outside? Especially when I'm not at home, I want to be informed if something happens....
Are your cameras on the same local network? It doesn't matter if you access the cameras locally or not. They probably send data home if you don't deny them internet access. If you are also running a DLNA server, your photos and videos probably go over the line as well.
A good system for access is an NVR or NAS (e.g., Synology or QNAP).
Access from outside is easy. Simply use a VPN into the home network and then access it as if you were at home. It's free. In the worst case, you use the VPN function of the Fritzbox. But there are other options as well.

Then I'll see what I can find and write it here. I'm a bit short on time right now ^^

Whether you want to call it "using it for playing" is a matter of opinion. We've already been able to identify a "trash can kicker" more than once with it. It was enough that he then received a fine (at least the village policeman imposed one)

Otherwise, 3 days (storage) is more than enough for us. My parents don't go on vacation anymore, so there's always at least one person at home - continuously for 30 years (best burglary protection anyway ^^)

The cameras are on the same network - correct. But my data like pictures etc. are stored on a self-built server (Win 10/64 bit - encrypted) I've been keeping an eye on it

I'll take care of remote access then - after all, thanks to FB I can open the front door from on the go

Hello, the thread is a bit older, but maybe it can be revived.
I am also facing the question of which video intercom system I should install.
It should definitely be app-controlled (door opener, notification for movement and ringing, intercom function) and should be a 2-wire bus system (no LAN cable installed) to the indoor station.
Upstairs, I would like to have another indoor station as a slave, for which I have not laid any extra wiring (except of course power), so it should be able to connect via Wi-Fi to the master indoor station.
So far, I liked the Doorbird D2101V, but unfortunately it is only possible with a cumbersome and expensive adapter to 2-wire and another slave indoor station is not possible without cable connection.
I have now found the Elogoo video door intercom system (+ extra slave monitor X4), which actually meets my requirements well and is still reasonably priced.

Are there any experiences here?

Have you tried these (turm.tech / Dahua)? (still on my experiment table)
Personally, I find them anything but PnP, but now I have to "bite the bullet."
Processing and video quality are TOP, even in the dark. HEK, however, is "only" about €500 net for all components...

Have you been able to gain experience whether it is possible to stream the camera image permanently to the monitor with Dahua or other systems? With Dahua, it is only possible in a very cumbersome way on the PC via Explorer (Chrome extension) and after some time the user is always required to log in again, which is extremely annoying. In addition, the extension generates very high power consumption according to the task manager and you can notice it by the loud fan noise when this app is open. On the Dahua monitor itself, which belongs to the door station, an image is only transmitted when someone rings. You can connect additional cameras, but their image also cannot be streamed permanently.

I inquired at the Metzler customer service; their door stations and indoor monitors also cannot do permanent streaming, not even for additional cameras that are not built into the door station.

That can’t be rocket science on the customer’s request to permanently transmit the image of the cameras on the screen, can it? The background is that we have two cameras in the entrance area because it is a bit winding and we would really like to see if someone is standing behind the corner (this is the purpose of the second camera, whose image can only be displayed in a very cumbersome way).

No, I don't have it myself… but I'm pretty sure that our smart home programmer has since integrated this function. I can gladly ask him about it next week… I use DMSS to open the door. Maybe it works with that? I haven't tested it due to lack of time and interest.
