For the sake of completeness, I have tried Dahua. It is certainly not plug & play during installation (like the German brand names that are twice as expensive), but afterwards it works stably and, unlike the alternatives mentioned above, it can be set up so that not all data runs through foreign servers. I am now very satisfied with the system (doorbell, additional cameras, switch, etc.).

So far, I've just been playing around a bit because it hasn't been installed yet. The screed is only coming in this week for us. In terms of processing, appearance, and materials, however, I am very satisfied.

Hi guys.

We have a mailbox system/buzzer from Renz. It also provides for the installation of a camera.

My question now is: Can’t I just install a cheap webcam there? We already have a camera system in the house that controls the cameras with an IP address. Theoretically, I should just be able to connect another camera to our network, right?

But which model is suitable if it shouldn’t be a camera that costs more than €100?

Basically yes, but:
- I can’t quickly think of a camera that is designed for that (mounting frame). Otherwise, just place a "normal" one over the hole
- the ones I can think of are all part of an intercom system (e.g. Gira, Mobotix...)
- all more expensive than your specification
- legally it’s not that simple. The intercom systems only take a picture or a short stream when ringing. With a "normal" IP camera, you will be filming continuously.
- you are not allowed to film public spaces. That means your doorbell must not be directed towards the street/sidewalk
- labeling is always mandatory to indicate that camera surveillance is taking place

The legal aspect is not a problem - with such a camera only our yard is visible.

Does a normal webcam have the right "angle" if you want to "observe" someone up close with it? After all, the visitors are standing diagonally next to the camera?! ops:
