And how is a garage defined then? Are there regulations about what material it must be made of? A "carport" that is closed on all sides and has a gate is actually also a garage. Does the garage have to meet certain fire protection requirements for a terraced house? If you build a solid house, for example, you could maybe just make the garage with walls. Then you are more flexible with the width.

The community should reflect on this once again. The "typical local" concept of the terraced house seems perverted to me if one prefers to "fill" the connection between the house bodies with prefabricated pizza boxes that always look somewhat alien, rather than with carports designed harmoniously to the house.

Yes, this time the state legislator actually makes an effort in defining terms and the municipal offices make up their own rules again. The distinction between parking space, open parking space, carport, open garage, and garage has been a recurring point of dispute in all federal states for decades and is judged differently by builders, urban planners, building permit authorities, building law commentators, and judges. The amendments of the LBOs and adjustments to the model building code bring no clarity - on the contrary, in NRW it has become even less transparent because existing rulings are still based on the old formulations. Conclusion: A dispute with the authority is not worth it, especially since you want a gate anyway.

That's true, we also searched for a long time back then. But in the end, it's not much different from a semi-detached house that just "stands alone." Although I prefer the terraced house ;)

I'll take another look at the stairs, we just based ourselves on the measurements from the internet, but I'm sure something can be done there.

Sure, more is always better and more visually appealing. But as always with floor plans, you have to make compromises, especially with small plots. And we preferred 30 cm more depth at the TV corner rather than at the stairs.

May I ask what your final floor plan looks like? And where in the greater Stuttgart area you built? (Sorry for the personal question, but I'm interested :))

I'll see if I can sufficiently "anonymize" the floor plan. The location is between Stuttgart and Pforzheim, closer to Stuttgart than to PF ;)
