I've wanted to ask that all along, because it's the same with our terraced house. Certainly not ideal, but also not overly dramatic if you plan accordingly. The stairwell just becomes "dark," but that can actually be balanced pretty well through an "open design" and intelligent lighting. It doesn't bother us at all.
I already like your floor plan as a first draft; the comments are definitely valid. Especially the topic of the hallway on the ground floor and the office corner on the upper floor, I would revisit those. In particular, the office corner upstairs would mean too big a compromise regarding the bathroom for me, especially with children.
Bedroom: I find the window arrangement strange; I wouldn’t place the large main window behind the headboard but rather towards the top of the plan.
One more note about the stairs: Honestly, I find them planned very generously, almost too generous. You have a width of 2.42 m; I think you could slim that down and benefit the other rooms. Our landing staircase, for example, is only 2.05 m wide. Even though according to the general forum opinion that’s supposedly way too narrow, we absolutely don’t feel that way at all. On the contrary: that was one of the best decisions :)
Thank you very much for your comments. It’s also nice to have someone who actually lives in a terraced house :-). Somehow that doesn’t happen that often.
I will take another look at the stairs; we just oriented ourselves by the dimensions from the internet, but there’s definitely room for adjustment.
May I ask what your final floor plan looks like? And where in the greater Stuttgart area you built? (Sorry for the private question, but I’m curious :-))
Our plot has now been approved by the municipal council, and we will have our notary appointment in April.
Kind regards and have a nice Sunday
