Wind is drafty, frost is cold, water is wet, and fire is hot!

How glad I am that I can still feel - even in a new building and often extremely and often rain between garage and front door. And luckily these feelings are not measurable for anyone else! If you don't feel like it, then don't - I'm going out into the storm now

Sorry, but you have no idea what you're talking about!!! Unfortunately, you are only good in theory
- What kind of fireplace?
- With thermal mass or only warm air vents?
- Size of the living room?

Just come by and enjoy our fireplace’s 11 kW nominal heat output in the living room. It’s only there for the look – massively overheats the living room from about 22 degrees to 24.5 degrees over the course of the evening. But it also needs to be well fed for that.
Windows open? What for, the fireplace can’t heat the living space anyway... You also won’t get toasted like bread on a stick when you sit comfortably with a glass of red wine right in front of the fireplace.

Leave him in his world - I rather suspect the poor guy is simply jealous of those things he tries to talk down.

He won't build a house in 10 years

So, away from theory to practice:

We have been living in our house with an air-to-water heat pump and underfloor heating for two months. Additionally, we have a fireplace with 7 kW in the living room. We use the fireplace when we want to make ourselves comfortable in the evening with a little fire and a glass of wine. Then I don't care if the room temperature rises to 24 degrees within an hour. It’s simply a cozy atmosphere. Even when we had the fireplace burning all day on a Sunday, the temperature didn't really get higher (with normal airing three times a day without a ventilation system). You can actually control the wood and air supply and thus also the heat generation quite well in a proper fireplace. In addition, I see the fireplace as an option to maintain a pleasant temperature in my house in an emergency (e.g. prolonged power outage in winter) and, if necessary, to heat some water on it. And last but not least, it is also a visual highlight in our living room

Conclusion: I am glad that we have our fireplace and would have one installed again immediately.
