Take your wife and go for a walk, preferably through the nearest model home exhibition. Bring a tape measure with you and then look at the rooms. How wide they are, what kind of spatial feeling arises. How much space a staircase takes up. What slope is still comfortable, which is too steep. Where windows are cleverly placed so that hallways are not too dark. Where it is poorly designed. How wide they need to be if they are next to an open staircase "hole" or if they only connect rooms. Also pay attention to ceiling heights in relation to room sizes. Don’t be shy about looking at everything mercilessly, asking questions, measuring, and trying things out.
