So all the window specialists I have spoken to say that roller shutters do not provide burglary protection (at least not the standard roller shutters you see in single-family houses). Complete blackout can also be achieved with certain venetian blinds, but at an even higher price. I have not yet completed the research on the wind issue. Does the automatic raising have to be set on rail-guided systems as well? Does anyone know? We are currently planning on the ground floor with venetian blinds, upstairs with roller shutters. I just want flexible, adjustable shading in the living area and also to be able to look outside.

No difference.

You also have that with the venetian blind if you choose the appropriate slats and guides.

Unfortunately, that is still an old statement that has become established. These days there are roller shutter boxes with a "back stop edge" that is supposed to prevent the roller shutter from being pushed up, but it only helps to a limited extent. Anyone who wants to get through the window, even if the roller shutter is down, will manage it. Instead of securing the roller shutter, better secure the window properly.

That is definitely true.

If you want to install something special and money is "not an issue for now," you can google "S-Onro roller shutter" or "Orienta roller shutter." They are really special but unfortunately also incredibly expensive (~ price of venetian blind *3), which is why they were quickly dropped from our selection.

We have roller shutters but blinds would be preferable to me, currently the east side is closed but around 11 they go up and the south goes down. Fortunately, we have installed sun protection, thinking back to last year. You almost always sit in the dark there. During storms, blinds are always up.

Fortunately, shading is rarely needed during a storm...

Not only storms. Even somewhat stronger wind during the day is enough. This can happen quite often, especially in autumn.

Can't this be turned on(/off)? And are rail-guided systems different in this regard?
