Blinds in the children's room and bathroom on the south side

Our architect suggested [Raffstoren] because the children's and bedrooms face the south side. He said with a roller blind there is only light or dark. And if a child wants to play in the room in the afternoon, they sit in a dark room... if it does not get as dark as desired, you can easily help with an additional blackout roller blind inside.

What did people do back in the day?

In the afternoon there is no direct sunlight on it anymore - and when it is really hot, at least the children play inside.

I would consider whether I would really make the investment - the surcharge is there and it is not insignificant compared to roller shutters. Especially since you would then really have to think about interior blinds again.

I find it ridiculous in some new housing developments when even the tiniest window has a venetian blind.

A wind sensor is not a must - it always depends on the location of the house. Venetian blinds with guide rails withstand a lot of wind. I saved myself that part because it is also outrageously expensive. Just laid a cable for it.

At times when the sun is blazing down, it makes sense to completely seal off anyway, and you can also leave a roller shutter slightly open so that enough light still comes through. There are plenty of nice and cheaper options for privacy inside, so you don't need an external blind for that. Unless, of course, you find it so great that the extra cost is worth it, obviously.

Until now, I always thought that blinds and Venetian blinds only exist as interior installations. Roller shutters are for the outside.
Here in the thread, I have now learned that there are also blinds and Venetian blinds for the outside.

Aunt Google now shows me corresponding pictures of them. However, visually, I do not see a big difference between exterior blinds, exterior Venetian blinds, and roller shutters—apart from possibly a greater choice of colors for blinds and Venetian blinds.

Even though the construction of our house is already completed (with roller shutters) – could someone please explain the differences to me, the uninformed?

Venetian blinds/shutters are essentially the same, but the former term is now more common. And they are available both with external tracks and cable guidance. In some areas, roller shutters are also called blinds - the confusion is perfect
