On a July day, the demand is certainly no problem - but at 5:00 PM in the gray November, it probably is. Where is the electricity especially in the windless south supposed to come from then?

Grid? From wind turbines in the north? Hydropower plants? And (I’m coming clean) nuclear power? I mean it was in Belgium, soon the first plant will go online that recycles the generated waste? Edit: the keywords and transmutation as well as particle accelerators lead to the mentioned.

What led to this extremely conscious decision?

Hmm, didn't we already establish a few pages earlier that it is not actually more expensive?!
But since you consciously decided, can you certainly say again which option would have cost what for you?

From wind turbines in the north? We all see how fast the expansion of the grid is progressing. And let’s not kid ourselves, the energy demand in Germany will never be able to be produced for the entire country in the North Sea. Due to geographical conditions, we will have to rely on energy from fossil sources for a very long time.

And nuclear power? Is that an alternative? Back to the 60s... I live near a still operating nuclear power plant. And since 2011, that has been a quite realistic threat and I am glad when the cloud disappears from the sky at the end of the year.

The main problem, in my opinion, is that we are currently trying to turn too many wheels at the same time. We have the nuclear phase-out (actually only here in DE) including the energy transition, transport transition/e-mobility, a completely overheated housing and new construction market. At the same time, unfortunately, a global pandemic that costs billions.

Now it is demanded, come hell or high water, to bring forward the deadlines, which even with the current plans cannot be met. An ideological one-upmanship competition has been unleashed, which in the end will be carried out on the backs of consumers. The CO2 targets for this year have basically already been missed today and this will have massive effects, for example, at the gas pump from January at the latest. This, in turn, will further massively increase costs for retail, logistics, construction industry, etc.

That's right. The important thing is just to send the thanks to the right addressees (the past federal governments). And since a "keep it up (or something like that)" will once again be very realistic after this election, everything will continue to escalate and then really hurt in 10 years. If we had continued on the course set 20 years ago, we would now be climate-neutral, technology leaders in all important technologies of the coming decades, and could nicely lean back and export our knowledge. A pity, really.
