I am also not quite sure why I spend more time at the sink. It is probably a matter of usage patterns. But we, for example, spend almost no time at the sink, only at the island. The sink is used for hand washing and that’s almost it...

Good idea, I’ll test that tomorrow.
The cooktop is 830 mm, so if it’s centered, you’d have 57 cm on each side.
But I could consider shifting the cooktop to the left or right.

The passage isn’t important, that’s true.
It’s more about the look and being able to stand beside it.
Oh, and my drawing isn’t quite accurate regarding the windows. I’ll upload a floor plan shortly, then it’ll be clearer why that’s inconvenient.

Keep in mind that especially with a kitchen the motto applies: form follows function. There are things where appearance can be the main aspect. Other things have to be functional. After a few years you might realize that you have gotten used to the appearance, but not the loss of functionality. A kitchen definitely belongs to the latter. At least if you really use it and it is not just supposed to be a room element.

Here is the floor plan. It is easier to see that I was not very precise with the wall / the balcony door.

I appreciate the suggestions, thank you very much.

Here it is actually largely about the appearance and the open living feel.
The kitchen is not used daily and if so, for a maximum of 2-3 people. There are no chopping frenzies.
And if there ever are, then the island is certainly big enough.

What exactly do you see as loss of functionality?

You know, I can't really judge, much less presume to judge where the losses are because I don't know your habits. I can say that we(!) are not making a freestanding island, but one that ends at the wall, because we cook a lot, always stand in the same spots in the kitchen, never here, there, or somewhere else, and a double-sided accessible island would be a waste of space with our usage pattern. That's what I mean by form follows function. Currently, we have a freestanding island. We can approach it from every side. But we don't. Always from the same two sides. The two passages are of no use to us, but the lack of space on the island annoys us every time we cook elaborately.
