More important than appliances is actually the layout. You can get as fancy as you want and cram in all kinds of silly corners & edges, counters, jalousie cabinets, and whatever else. I would try to avoid that - it makes things easier and saves money. The same basically goes for the appliances: prefer as few as possible, but good ones. At least I don’t need steam ovens, built-in coffee machines, plate warmers, icemakers, etc... cooktop, oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher are enough for us.
Our only luxury is a Quooker and a high-quality and durable countertop (ceramic). I find both great and enjoy them every day. By the way, I’m enthusiastic about our 60cm Blanco Etagon sink - really great.
