Is the building plan reliable? When to terminate the rental apartment?

The kitchen would be measured for us before the screed. Only the interior plaster was important. The manufacturing time for that is one month. We procured the appliances ourselves. After the furniture is assembled, the stonemason comes and measures the countertop.

For us, it will be the interior doors. After tiles come the kitchen installer, painter including vinyl laying, and then the interior doors.

The question also occupied us. We were lucky and were able to stay for the last 3 months until moving into the in-laws' house, who were taking a 6-8 week trip around Europe during that time.

But: We were actually too "cautious" about it. Our landlord gave us the option to stay longer or move out earlier after giving notice. So I would recommend talking to the landlords and feeling out whether you might get the possibility to be released from the contract early after giving notice (regardless of whether there is a new tenant or not).

if you want to "gift" your deposit anyway, then the landlord should also be open to such joint solutions. After 18 months, almost never are cosmetic repairs necessary, meaning that according to your description you probably wouldn’t even need to paint. So you could safely consider the deposit as a rental buffer because you definitely should not offer it to your landlord as compensation for painting.

And if you have the possibility to live on the property (camper, container, tent), then do it! Especially in summer it is definitely a nice experience.

For storing furniture: We were able to take an isolated single room in the basement, where nothing happened anymore in the final phase, and were able to store our household goods there. Of course, this only works to a limited extent, but we managed from a 2.5-room apartment without children and the landlord let us sublet quite a bit.

We have simply already slept at our place and will continue to do so – until the underfloor heating arrives.

The plan is also to move in as soon as possible, I’m not worried about missing doors at all. And I don’t want any stress. We’re not living together yet and are paying for a small shared flat room and an inexpensive apartment. I’d rather pay rent a bit longer than look for a sublet (in Berlin, where there’s hardly anything available).

According to the construction schedule, the contractual handover is on 11.5., we have sold our house as of 30.6.

We already had a preliminary acceptance on 25.4. and currently a few finishing works are still missing.

But if we had a kitchen, we could move in.

In my opinion, it depends on how reliable the information from your [GU] was/is during the construction phase.

If necessary, the kitchen can also be bridged with a camping stove and an active cooler when things get tight
