Is a TAE socket still needed nowadays?

The frustration over the copper cable in the new building has eased a bit - technician was here, ordered 250 Mbps down, measured 270 - so that fits. Up only 40, I still have to check that. Took a bit of a risk and completely gave up on Sat/coaxial wiring etc.

That's exactly what we're doing too. Entire street 250 Mbps. But the property directly behind us only 16 Mbps. Gambling at its best. 20K € for fiber optic and cable was just too much for us then.

The technician said that our house is very close to the distribution point - that’s why the 250 is no problem. I was excited about the setup of the FritzBox - it has never been this easy. A few clicks on the phone (without having Telekom customer data ready), and the FritzBox fetched everything by itself.

Previously, I had a fiber 500 line that ran practically without disruptions. Now I’m curious how stable this super-vectoring trick over copper will be.

I would guess, either fully or not at all. And not sometimes like with Kabel.

Ah, you all have such difficult decisions to make, fiber optic or copper, TAE or not. I really appreciate the latest information I received from Telekom - well, after the APL including TAE has been installed and I already wanted to book a tariff:

"Unfortunately, at the moment we can only offer you pure telephony tariffs."

These are not decisions because you don’t really have a choice. When you are favored by the capricious gods of fiber optic expansion follows an uncertain plan – but if you have fiber optic, you certainly no longer need TAE. And then you will quite certainly no longer get one not : namely pure telephone tariffs *LOL*

Some may grumble that it is a common problem. But without internet, really not much works nowadays...
