But partly the politicians are not to blame. Where we bought our building plot last year, FTTH is currently being rolled out comprehensively. The connection is free for all during the pre-marketing phase.

Now comes the nice BUT...... in some villages, only the minimum number (% quota) of connections has been ordered for the expansion to be allowed at all.

Then the residents are partly to blame themselves if later no young families want to move there anymore and their properties lose a lot of value.

It was very important to my wife and me that at least VDSL50 is available. When I found out that FTTH was coming, the enthusiasm was very high and it was also a direct reason for buying the plot (there were other positive reasons as well).

Unfortunately, that's exactly the case. The sheer madness of the Diginetz law, allowing Deutsche Telekom to lay a cable during any underground construction work... no wonder other providers slow down expansion when Telekom is allowed (or was allowed?) to expand its DSL network at their expense, and this is still (or was) supported by politics.

And with the expensive tariffs for hybrid internet, I'm not surprised that Telekom has no interest whatsoever in comprehensive network expansion. Once again, Germany is lagging far behind with politicians stuck in the 80s. At least in Bavaria, there is the Gigabit directive until 2025 – including funding for expansion. Let's see if that brings anything.

Back then, the LTE800 expansion (Telekom + Vodafone) was marketed as "high-speed expansion" in our area. That the tariffs back then were worthless unfortunately didn’t interest anyone. In addition, the radio cell was completely overloaded.

In the past, even the last field was connected with a road...... until recently, you had to be happy if a conduit was even laid during road expansion.

Until 2025???? Wasn't there a date for nationwide expansion in Germany up to 50k?

My brother-in-law lived until last year in the Ruhr area (a bigger city) near a train station and just got VDSL25. Now he lives outside the same city and has VDSL250.

I always say, as long as the speed is not bookable and actually arrives, believe nothing!

There are plenty of examples here with "ports fully booked" and I know very few new development areas around here (North NRW) where FTTH exists.

Are you trying to say that the new development areas suffered because too few original village residents were dissatisfied with their 6k-DSL and therefore did not order fiber optic? I have been a satisfied surfer & caller over TV coax for ten years, so why should I care about the Telekom cables in my block of houses? According to Zager & Evans in the year 2525

If it were 6k. Until the FTTH expansion, most were on DSL Light. Often the problem is that where there is no decent DSL, there is also often no coax cable. But that is just my experience.

It was communicated for each individual village how many percent of households ordered an FTTH connection. From that, I would say you can deduce it.

Unfortunately, many don’t know that LTE and cable internet are just shared media. You can be lucky if your neighbors are very restrained in their internet use, but if you have several power users, it can quickly look different.

I think some would be happy about that, but will it really work out???
