Yes, we all thought we were losing our minds in the new development area. It was an unfortunate combination. Telekom approached the municipality and offered to gradually expand fiber optic in the municipality (at no cost to the municipality). The advantage was that we have a strong industrial base and infrastructure, and Telekom was interested in providing the fiber optic infrastructure anyway. Unitymedia, back then still KabelBW, also approached the municipality and said they would build a fiber optic network if the municipality took care of the civil engineering work. The municipality smiled and said no. Additionally, the small new development area consists of two dead ends. I think KabelBW thought, we won’t do this just for a few folks, or if so, they should pay for it. Telekom, however, included it right away during the development work.

We have decided against cable because unitymedia wants 17k €. Telekom's fiber optic was even more expensive at 19k. Actually, we wanted to install both cable and Telekom for choice. Now we are sticking with DSL. Although Telekom was our preferred option anyway. Originally only fiber optic. I think we will end up with 100/40 MBit. We have that now as well. It's sufficient.

The amounts in the five-digit range always occur when the network operator does not yet have any cables laid there (in the street). In that case, the street would be dug up and laid specifically for the client. (However, I still suspect that each time they hope the customer will not even accept the presented offer.) Otherwise, I can confirm that UM/Vodafone are real slowpokes when it comes to strategic expansion. It was the same in our development area back then. Although they were repeatedly asked if they wanted to lay their cables as part of the complete new development, nothing happened. I was then told it was not available, while a neighbor (until then a UM customer) received an offer of around EUR 20,000.

Unfortunately, nobody dared to lay fiber optic cables back then, so now everything runs over copper cables. At least a new DSLAM was installed for the entire development area, so that a maximum cable length of 200 m makes all offered speeds via DSL possible.

VF/UM explained to me that the existing node is overbooked and therefore a new one would be needed for our house, which together with the work on public land would result in the costs.

We have had everything installed. - Cables, which we also use for the internet. High speeds and real IPv4 have been added. The TV function is not activated. We will use IPTV. - Telekom connection is laid but not activated. At the address, good speeds are not possible at the moment anyway. - Empty conduit that later can be used to blow in fiber optic cables. Thus, we have options to switch and are also flexible in this regard for the future. If you want to limit yourself to one medium, the speed would decide for me.
