How often do you use your roller shutters?

My better half constantly raises or lowers [some] sometimes at specific times

I only need them in the bedroom for sleeping... I used to have some too and didn't use them for anything other than sleeping

But I can understand the people who like it... I just prefer it "open and airy" and accept that they are open

My parents-in-law have neighbors like that, we call them "the vampires." As soon as a ray of sunshine breaks through the clouds, the roller shutters go down...

Of course, you can do that... but do you really want to sit in the living room in dim light during summer?

Normally, a house has at least 2 sides through which no sun shines. It still gets bright inside the house through the windows located there when you shade the sunny windows. In addition, they have the gaps between the individual elements. Furthermore, I can leave 20% of my roller shutters open at the bottom because in midsummer the sun is so high that only a tiny strip shines directly into the house.

What I mean is - dim light is at least not the case for me when I shade in summer.

I also prefer sitting in the "dark" rather than in the heat. If I want sun, I go outside. I don't need that inside the house; it is my cool retreat. Thankfully, we also have no windows facing south. The last summers have shown where things are heading, and such summers are simply terrible without sun protection. I generally find heat difficult to bear. Therefore, I shade the sun windows and let the light in through the shade windows.

Exactly. When you lower the blinds (even just halfway), a little bit of sun comes through the gaps and the rest gets in. But not more than that. And that's completely sufficient for me in the height of summer. Especially as it keeps getting warmer and record-breaking summers lie ahead. I'm grateful for my blinds. Because especially in new buildings, the heat can get quite intense if you don't darken the rooms. Good insulation has its advantages and disadvantages.

No idea why they are so hyped, but all the houses around us with those things rattle annoyingly.
