How often do you use your roller shutters?

But what then?

I am trying to imagine the technical implementation, but I wouldn’t want something like that.

It is an interplay of everything that is in the house (presence detectors and other sensors). Especially when it comes to presence, one does not want any misinterpretation. Otherwise, in the case of roller shutters, they might possibly move back and forth. This function is rather a by-product because the sensors are needed for other tasks anyway and are already available (in case someone wants to build something like this), but when sensibly combined, one can intelligently control, for example, the roller shutters.

Bedroom: daily
Guest/hobby room: once a week
Terrace: when we go on vacation
Office south side: in winter when the sun is low
Rest: not at all.
As you can see, there can be many reasons for or against roller shutters

I use it in the bedroom in summer so that it is dark.

Everyone else only when we are away for several days, otherwise not at all.

Very inconspicuous, I know :D

For budget reasons, we are now only preinstalling the electrical control during our renovation of the old building and will see after about a year whether we need roller shutters. For me personally, the main argument would be heat protection, but we'll see how it turns out – we don't have a single window facing south, only on the other three sides, and all the bedrooms are on the cooler floors without sloping ceilings. Regarding privacy, I think we are already quite desensitized. Currently, anyone can look into every room here in the rented apartment in the middle of the city. You get used to it :)

I agree with normal windows. We now have many floor-to-ceiling windows, and I find it quite uncomfortable when everyone can look in.

But we will probably solve it with a hedge rather than with roller shutters. My neighbor built a corner window facing me, where his dining table is. That's why the roller shutters are usually down there, so he can eat undisturbed.

What nonsense. I build an expensive corner window... and then the roller shutters are constantly down...
