It is already like this. €220 liability insurance, €100 taxes (roughly), a bit of maintenance and vehicle inspection. You can save well on that, and fuel consumption only occurs when used. Choose an inexpensive vehicle, then the surrounding costs are also manageable.

Since I recently rode my bike about 6 km exactly in a suit and coat, I can only say: it is colder on the stomach than with a more suitable jacket. Another bike (upright seating, Dutch bike) would help and would be absolutely suitable for 6 to 10 km. Otherwise, I ride a bike all year round; I have to work all year round as well (not in a suit, but still properly dressed). That works well, 9 km, one way. Maybe this shouldn't be discussed any further here ... everyone has to decide for themselves.

This was about the second(!) car.

By the way: You can get water from the tap, beer, juice, wine can be delivered. Whatever: We also have a car, otherwise I wouldn't even know about the high costs .

My commute after moving into our own house (sometime) is 30km (one way). Last year, I bought an electric car for €14,500 (after deducting the e-incentive + discounts).
Compared to my previous diesel, I save about €1,500 in operating costs per year, and since hardly anything can break on an electric car (also it has an 8-year warranty on everything), the electric car would pay off after 10 years. If not, I still drive cheaper than a combustion engine car. Of course, such a battery also wears out, but it should easily manage 60km even after 10 years.

Costs that disappear compared to a combustion engine (at least for me):
- €284 tax
- €100 less insurance
- €85 less per month for fuel or drive costs, which might disappear completely if there's an Ikea or a Tank&Rast on the way to work
- No oil changes
- No emissions inspections
- Also no future [Maul]

Just a thought to consider

Not worth it at 13km now and then 6km. Consumption costs are not really the problem.

And to maintain the warranty, you have to do inspections. Those, as one reads, are probably not cheap despite the reduced maintenance expectations.

What do you have there? Zoe?

Do you all drive cars to SAVE MONEY? Am I the only one who actually associates fun with it?

For me, driving a car is also a necessary evil. In urban areas, I take the bike whenever possible. If it's a bit warmer, I also like to use the scooter. Unfortunately, we also need two cars and one has to be big because of the children.
