That's nonsense. Where did your savings come from then? Did you start working in construction at the age of 8?

those are just examples for someone who cannot imagine that a child causes no costs other than daycare

Almost. At 8, my expectations regarding a cellphone and designer jeans were still low. My hobbies were volleyball and salt dough modeling. Getting a moped license was out of the question. Otherwise, until I was 15, I lived off money given by my grandmother, birthday and Christmas money, and pocket money. Occasionally, my grandfather would hand me a note for especially good and diligent gardening work. From that, I saved up for my first PC and a Nokia cellphone, paid for my half of tennis lessons, and so on. Yes, that was possible. From 15 onwards, I worked as a waiter. From that, I saved for my driver's license and my starting money for my own apartment, as well as to buy my beloved Sims games. Many parents lose perspective. There is discussion about whether 100 euros for a class trip per child is acceptable or if it's better to just give them an EC card. Why does an elementary school child have to have the latest Apple device? Why do they need their own PC? Why their own console? Why must they have tennis, piano, and fencing as hobbies? Can't one teach the child that everything has its price? Friends' 3-year-old daughter is bombarded with toys. Really nice things. But she is now only happy about big things. Our little one goes crazy with joy over a Kinder Surprise egg. His toys can be stored in 2 moving boxes, not counting the stuffed animal armada.

Yes, our children have been raised that way too and have only 1 hobby that costs money. But I cannot argue that a primary school child has to pay for needs such as education (I also count piano lessons as part of that) themselves or beg grandpa. And the driver's license is so essential today that I simply have to make it possible for my children. This is not a luxury at all.
