"Pull it on" - and it was ypg
It was actually supposed to come across as somewhat funny.
In recent years, I've had the topic several times with colleagues that the children (about 13 and 15 years old) each wanted a new phone. Although they already each had the parents' old phone. But it had to be an iPhone. And then again, there was already the small iPhone 3, and suddenly the storage was not enough anymore, so a new one was demanded. Of course, the mentioned colleagues tried to impart their healthy attitude towards money to their children, but apparently those are battle days and at some point you give in.
One colleague openly said that his daughter turns into a girly girl at 13 (new clothes, makeup, etc.) ... new school, new girl clique. The pocket money is not enough. And when the deer-brown eyes look at Dad like that, he can't be tough either, especially since they themselves afford quite a few extras (he a new racing bike, she a Thermomix).
A female colleague: after 6 years of horseback riding as a hobby, her daughter (14) then had to have her own horse.
They drive to tournaments, a trailer is needed, a winter riding outfit for 500 (of which the parents paid 300) is just one example.
Son (16) is now doing an apprenticeship. For that, he found a room as a subtenant in Hamburg. The parents pay for the monthly public transport ticket besides maintaining a second household; he pays for food himself. On weekends he is picked up from Hamburg, because where the parents live (middle of nowhere) no public transport runs.
Even scouts cost money: rucksack and sleeping bag are one-off costs. You also quickly outgrow clothes, and the sleeping bag caught fire during a trip. One for 20 € is not enough, you sweat in it. Trips there are also made on weekends and during holidays. Then a train ride also has to be paid for.
Some federal states do not pay for school books. 160€ for a year plus bag and co.
One child is a rugby talent. He is promoted by the coach. Tournaments are played every weekend. Like with football. New shoes, and now and then another upgrade of equipment. 3 times a year to southern Germany with a supervisor (parent), with hotel room.
These are now spontaneously 3 examples of completely normal families, who are not snobby, but as parents feel obliged to support the child's only hobby or interest, because the pocket money is not enough for such things.
