Partly I do agree with you, of course. However, you are currently trying to apply a very general rule of thumb (which I even pointed out has difficulties) to significantly less than 1% of the population. Naturally, that is bound to fail.

Crazy how different the childcare costs are.

For my daughter (2 years old) I pay 260 euros monthly. (Daycare) The state adds 100 euros until she is 3 years old. Then she goes to kindergarten which costs 160 euros. The subsidy then stops.
A sibling gets a discount.

I totally agree. When after parental leave there was more money, we were shocked at how much our consumption behavior had gotten out of hand.

I can tell you from my own experience that this is not true. With every extra euro, your standard of living also increases, and you don’t want to reduce that for a house. Above all, a house that costs 66% of your net income would reach such dimensions that you would need staff to maintain it, and people in this income bracket generally don’t have that. At least no one I know does.

I don't know anyone in such salary ranges, but some with significantly less who can afford a housekeeper.
