Alessandro's house strikingly resembles our house in gray - even the tree is just as bare :) :

What is this hint supposed to tell us? I don’t understand it now. I don’t see any similarity, nor do you have to imitate the colors of this house. Just do YOUR thing.

I think the "old" house should not be modernized on the outside. The rough exterior plaster belongs to the style of the house. You will never achieve the desired modern effect with a fine plaster, gray railing in stainless steel or wood. A comparison with new city villas in gray-white with black roofs is pointless here.

I already find the change of the windows not fitting to the style of the house. Combining modern and old requires much more than just using different colors here and there. For example, we have an old half-timbered house nearby, where a stainless steel exterior staircase was added afterwards over 3 floors. That fits well, but it was also designed by someone who had a good eye for this interplay and harmony.

My advice probably comes too late when I read that the new front door has already been ordered in modern and white. I would rather take the plunge and stick to green or brown – the effect when entering the house with modern furnishings is then also much stronger.

It is a risk to first install windows that are less fitting to the house and then choose the plaster afterwards.

That is indeed a high art.

You have a beautiful house with somewhat rustic shapes, proportions, and an "80s bay window." You are not turning it into a look that is currently preferred – be glad, because your house is definitely more timeless than some of the currently highly sought-after city villas.

Therefore, I would work with the house and not against it. On the facade, you can play with a combination of not too fine wood and plaster to connect natural material and plaster color. The plaster color can then also be a real color, a statement, instead of a bland gray that does not really suit the house style. The canopy over the front door and the balcony railing can remain wooden but get somewhat straighter shapes and more harmonious proportions. The house can also tolerate vegetation – for example, a wisteria.

For something truly modern: move instead of bending.
