A 30-50% surcharge is probably an obvious reason, don't you think?
Even the surcharge for oak instead of pine would have been higher than wood/aluminum instead of plastic...
I myself ran an aluminum window manufacturer a few years ago. We were about 20% above plastic (not compared with discounters, of course). In price comparison engines it may look different because there are no discounters for aluminum; this might create the impression that aluminum is much more expensive.
When I talk about wood-aluminum, I mean wood/aluminum from manufacturers who can do it (more dare to try). Apparently, recently - which must have passed me by - there are wood-aluminum windows on the market that simply use wood qualities under the motto "it is protected with aluminum," which you better wouldn't use "bare." That, of course, is significantly cheaper.
I guess I need to update my market overview regarding junk products.
