I hardly have any academics in my circle of acquaintances.. mainly workers, employees, and a few entrepreneurs. I don’t know anyone with the behavior mentioned above! Maybe that’s why.. we here in the East are a bit more "bright." No idea. But the image you convey here of "academics" makes me seriously doubt *shaking my head even more*

It doesn't help you if you give 'examples' where others are 'even worse'. That doesn't improve your position. And it by no means indicates what the average is.
Did you see the post with the statistics and the 97%?

So I don’t see the €3,200 calculation for the project that way. That would mean we would invest all leftover money for 30 years, and then we couldn’t save anything for vacations. And spending over 50% of net income on the house doesn’t sound good either, right?

Of course, I have the documents, it’s not like I throw everything away...they are just in a box with everything that is not thrown away.

It's not about always fully securing everything. There are also things that cannot be insured (or would be unaffordable).

Nordanny has already given you the definition of "übrig".

To address your points 1-4.
1) Absolute no-go! Never! No bank will cooperate with your attitude.
2) Must have! That should be your plan today (for the next 12 months).
3) Good starting position. That is your goal for summer 2018.
4) Illusory, only makes sense if you want to search for another 5 years.

And now a rhetorical question and two homework assignments.

1) Are you ready to restrict yourselves and save 1500 euros every month? = do it!

2) No vacation, no consumption, savings book, overnight money, pillow, paying off debt. No more, but also no less.

3) Keep a household book. Today is the 3rd of the month. Start the day before yesterday. Collect receipts, write down in the evening. If really desired, I have material for this.

On the contrary, I understand it very well, for example. But you don’t have to convince us to give you money for your project; instead, you have to find a bank that will lend you the money. Banks assess this lifestyle critically, which means that you either get no loan at all or only a comparatively expensive loan.

No one in this forum can do anything about that, because you ultimately choose your lifestyle and approach yourself. If you get the desired loan with it, that’s fine. Then you build your house, start a blog here, and everyone is happy and satisfied.

However, what happens if your life plan doesn’t work out, the bank will then explain that to you as well.

Best regards
