So, in order for an external dishwasher to fit into an Ikea dishwasher cabinet, do we need an XXL dishwasher with a Vario hinge? I thought I had read somewhere that XXL dishwashers do not fit into IKEA cabinets? Or did I misunderstand that?

You can have it planned there by an employee or go there first with your idea. On site, you can then see and try everything live, the measurements, the look, and function up to the setup. We have IKEA nearby and have been there countless times trying things ourselves because of counters, distances, lighting, etc. You don't have to do it that often, but we are probably detail-oriented-.). The IKEA appliances are good; they get them from a well-known manufacturer anyway. You just have a limited selection, and if you want a certain look, sometimes you end up with other suppliers. But basically, you get everything there and in good quality. That's right., we have a dishwasher from Siemens; I couldn't handle that alone, but the kitchen installer was there. The rest always fits because either just inserted (oven, steam cooker) or placed in (cooktop). Caution: The normal countertops are, I believe, 61 or 61.5 cm deep, so a regular DIY store countertop with 60 cm does not fit. But IKEA has plenty of choices or lets you have one adjusted in the store. Exactly, the extractor hood did not have a good rating at Stiftung Warentest (like many others), I bought a Miele with good test results back then for €500.- The idea to buy something used like a steam cooker or similar is good because these are often hardly used and resold. On the other hand, the look should also match. We have this one from Siemens and everything fits: Siemens SX678X36TE All necessary parts were included.

That all sounds not bad. I will try out the Ikea planner in the next few days. Otherwise, Ikea is also very close to us and we could easily try out and look at everything there. We will do that in the next few days as well!

The real problem is indeed the ones mentioned, like the height (not everyone wants such a thick board) and the limitation of the grid. It wouldn't work with my quirky line work.
In the past, the Ikea built-ins were absolutely terribly unstable... seems not to be the case anymore today. I would probably connect the cabinets two or three times over so that they don't warp. I know it differently.

Yes, those are also my experiences, but with IKEA kitchens from 20 years ago or older. Apparently, something has changed at IKEA in recent years. Apparently also with the appliances...

Of course, there are also technical limits at IKEA, like the working height. I have only noticed that in the comparison group (cost/performance) you reach design limits much faster. I want to put it this way: if someone likes IKEA kitchens and can design a nice kitchen for themselves with the many design options, then I see no reason not to buy one. Multiple screwing is by no means necessary; it is no different than with most other kitchens. Nothing here hangs crooked or warps. As I said, even after the second move. True, if you want the carcass significantly higher, you need the thick board or one that maybe not everyone will like. But this is not an emergency solution, but a deliberately chosen look. In the picture from you can see what can be designed with a normally thick board. I have had some kitchens from the usual suspects "in hand" in recent years and could therefore take that worry away from you. We had Nolte in the attic and IKEA on the ground floor. Difference: zero. Durability/function: identical. For me, price/performance/appearance of IKEA kitchens is currently unbeatable; and I say that without receiving any bribes... unfortunately. But of course, that is only my opinion and of course there are countless other options that can be just as suitable.
