independent of our "conversation" via PM, I browsed the internet and found an alternative for a centrally located staircase. This floor plan could – with slight modifications regarding the entrance situation – also suit you. In terms of dimensions, it should work, except maybe for the bay window; the staircase or the access would also have enough space in the attic. Don’t bother the provider now

P.S: By the way, I cannot understand why the architect offered you the floor plan with the open staircase, considering you have 3 small children...

The straight staircase bothers me all the time. If I were you, I would experiment to see if you might take a half-turn staircase. You could possibly place it in the center of the house and maybe have more room to maneuver. Just start from the beginning and experiment, as was already said, you don't build a house that quickly again.

Just so you get a feeling for the cost of a few cm more or less. With about 60 cm more (length or width), the construction would have cost us about €16,000 more.

A dormer, like in the first architectural draft, would have cost us an additional €12,000.
