Beams will probably be necessary. We also needed them without the gallery and air space. I wouldn't lower the entire ceiling. I would clad the beam and be done. We even have a large fake beam. Somehow it looked better and disguised the 4 or 5 cm lowered kitchen ceiling.

Do I understand correctly that it is roughly as shown in red in the picture? (Very roughly)

…it would be necessary to move the wall in the upper floor living room to the garage wall, and the wall between the stairs and the office to the underlying wall in the ground floor toilet.
Unfortunately, I fear that this would be very bad for the living room upstairs.

What surcharges would the beams and the modification roughly cost? You will certainly have to pay for the static calculations and the beams, right? Not that it's so much that it becomes unaffordable with the gallery and open living space.
