Do you have a tendency towards perfectionism when it comes to the house?

99%: I would only make one of the terrace doors as a sliding door. As a normal door, it leads to a bottleneck at the dining table. Otherwise, I would build exactly the same again

In our initial construction drawings, there were a few spots that somehow pinched or were complicated to implement. I spent weeks dealing with each of these points, really pondering over them. And that was a good and important thing! Solutions were found for all points, which were mostly so simple that in retrospect I wondered why no one had recognized them before. And above all, I was glad that I had given us time for this discovery process. And… by engaging intensively with the plans, I internalized everything so well that I could respond well to inquiries and decisions. If I was unsure, I slept on it.. there was always that much time ;)

I always had very specific ideas (accumulated on Pinterest boards) about what I wanted from a house and how it should look. Confronted with reality, I had to realize during the estimates that my dreams did not fit my non-millionaire budget. Then I started to come to terms with compromises, and my husband and I prioritized together what is worth money to us and what is not. Overall, not a very perfectionist approach. Some decisions (tiles, for example) we made instinctively because we liked them in the showroom, and we also listened to the recommendations of the sampler, which turned out to be among the best choices we made. There were so many things to choose from that at times it overwhelmed me. I am glad we selected the tiles quite ad hoc. Today I go into my bathroom and think, "Mei, wat schön!" and not, "Oh, could you have taken tiles XY, would that have been better?" :)

For me, it's different. There were a few things that were important to me. For example, the tiles in the bathroom, where I couldn't implement the actual desire for a Mediterranean design as I wanted because the appropriate tiles simply didn't exist. But I did spend a lot of time and effort looking for tiles and even got a few from the Czech Republic (my husband was already a bit annoyed). Now I enjoy my bathroom every day, especially the open shower that gives a holiday feeling. I wasn't so particular about the walls. We did Q2 and painted directly. But there's so much in front of them anyway, pictures are hanging or will be hung, and some will be painted over, so that’s perfectly fine for us. And if I ever don’t like a wall, I'll just change it in the future. Otherwise, I enjoy our new house every day. Almost everything turned out the way we imagined. And it is so much nicer than the old house. Even without KNX, controlled residential ventilation, etc. It’s just a good place to live.

Do you have a picture of the open shower? I would really be interested. :)

Here you go. In the foreground is a glass wall, on the left it is open. The tiles will probably please very few people, I think they are great.
