Do you have a tendency towards perfectionism when it comes to the house?

There actually is a "magic of mistrust" (frequently used by control freak type bosses), meaning that by supervising people you instill doubts about their abilities until they actually fail (and the supervisor feels vindicated). However, in my assessment, you are not the type of supervisor for whom this personnel deception method works ;-)

I also adhere to the Pareto principle. I usually could not enforce perfectionism, especially in execution. I have to say that I often lacked the backbone (and the time) to have the work undone. (And the moving schedule was somewhat tight. Most of the mistakes only became apparent to me after finishing. Not a single ceiling light outlet is EXACTLY where it should be...).

What was important to me was truly understanding every detail of the house with its consequences and being able to justify the decisions at least on a basic level, and so far everything important works flawlessly (walkways, sockets, etc.).

In the building area, I frequently heard "Oh I don’t really know that" or "I haven’t dealt with that." That wouldn’t have happened to me. Perfectionism in planning given the constraints of money and time.

Although it is like with the missing items in the construction service description. You can only apply your perfectionism to things you know exist. Many planning details and dependencies are not even aware to one.

Whenever it was supposed to be perfect, it became expensive... So I mostly didn't take it, then I think to myself why did I take the cheap one and I get annoyed. Then again, when I go for a walk and see other houses, I think to myself oh it's not that bad after all and it was cheap.

By now we have been in the house for over 6 years, the property has doubled in value, and I know that everything was right.

I am very perfectionistic about that. However, for me, that does not mean it has to be particularly expensive or luxurious. Rather, I first thought about what I definitely want to have, what would be nice to have optionally, and what I do not need at all. For almost every single point, I have been thinking about it over the past 1.5 years and always compared how much value important to me I get for which amount. Since the budget is limited, everyone basically has to make compromises somewhere. We do not live in the house yet, but with a lot of effort and by comparing with neighbors who have already moved into their houses and have basically the same conditions with the same plot size, I have already discovered many points that I find better thought out for our house.

And again a post without content.

We've seen that before... we are also waiting for it in vain.

By far, I was most fixated on planning the kitchen. Later then also on the bathroom and dressing room. So that everything there is (from our perspective) perfect.

Less attention was given, for example, to things like the positions of the supply and exhaust air for the controlled ventilation system (these need to be corrected in the utility room and children's room), the opening direction of the windows (several windows with the same dimensions, which I was able to have swapped among each other so that the direction is now correct).

Then, for example, that the electrician planned a row of six switches in the living room as two rows of three switches next to each other (this will be corrected :D), and some other placements of switches that made less sense.

Here and there, walls/door positions were removed or shifted on the floor plan. And I’m sure there will still be one or two more things added, and I’ve certainly already blocked some out again :)

Everything still involves effort or €€ at the moment...
