Do you have a tendency towards perfectionism when it comes to the house?

We discussed this in detail with the sampler for a long time, and he insisted that a tiled shower floor is not possible under any circumstances. Yes, unfortunately it really is too late, but I wouldn’t know why it should have been rejected if it is possible. He also didn’t offer that it might be possible for an additional charge or with a liability waiver. [/QUOTE] Addendum: Maybe it was a misunderstanding caused by us. In the show home, the shower floor is tiled, which we liked very much, but I thought that since no one “lives” in the show home bathroom, it might be possible there and not in a normal residential house.

Let’s forget about it, there are definitely worse things. I actually quite like the flat shower trays because they are easy to clean. Technically explained briefly: you have exactly the same floor as in a solid house, so it obviously works (see model house). However, you have to use cement screed, which you should do in the bathroom anyway (anhydrite screed is mostly used in living rooms). Also, the screed must be laid with a slope. Basically no problem, but it requires a bit more precision than simply pouring screed. And since you are building quite far from the location of your general contractor, it could be that he uses a subcontractor unknown to him there and therefore prefers to play it safe.

I don't think we have a tendency towards the "perfect house." I also don't believe there is such a thing as the perfect house for decades. Life is just too variable for that. Financially, it's also a bit of an issue; we can't fulfill all our wishes. Not necessarily because it's unaffordable, but because in my opinion the house would then dominate the finances too much. There should still be room for other projects, for example the dream of private phased retirement at 60... or unpleasant contingencies. And ultimately, some things just aren't that important to me. Tiles are tiles, and if they look okay and are within the price range of the construction specification, then that's fine. I'm more dreading the selection process anyway. We stumbled into the topic of building a house as an alternative to the overheated resale market, so maybe not everything is one hundred percent important.

A few things are important to me, though. The building technology must be reasonable and small luxuries like level showers. But definitely no smart home gimmicks that end up exposing your bare behind on the internet. That's job-related ;) And black is after all my favorite color, so a roof in anthracite fits, and currently I'm also imagining matching curbstones as well as maybe a black-gray or black-ochre ("Muschelkalk") nuanced paving in front. The latter would also go quite well with a possible Muschelkalk rock wall... ;)

Well, maybe this is a case of "when show houses 'lie'" ...
